This cost estimate was prepared on May 17, 2017 for the fall 2017 semester. These costs are approximations and are subject to change.

Program Fee: Columbia charges an $800 Program Fee which subsidizes program activities, course materials, mandatory French insurance, and printing supplies.  Penn Abroad will pay this fee to Columbia on the student's behalf. The charge will then appear on the student's Penn bill as two separate items ($300 Insurance and $500 misc. or program fee).  Even though students studying in France are required to purchase the French national insurance (included in the Reid Hall program fee), they must still maintain their US health insurance coverage.

Lodging and Meals: these costs are an estimated average based on the variety of housing options available through the program. More information on program housing options can be found on the Columbia Global Programs and Fellowships website here.

Personal Expenses: this estimate is for the entire semester and includes local transportation, the cost of which will vary widely depending on the location of a student's home.  The Navigo Pass (available to students under 26) costs approximately 70 €/month, but provides access to all public transportation in the Paris region.  The Reid Hall program will send students information on how to attain one shortly before the program start date.   Personal expenses also include normal spending for cultural activities and essential daily needs.  This is an estimate and will vary based on individual spending habits.

Visa fees include: Approximate cost for both Campus France registration ($180) and visa application ($56).  Visa fees are subject to change; individuals should consult consulate websites.

The airfare price quoted above is based upon the average cost of a round-trip ticket from the gateway city of New York City to the program site. Students may depart from the city of their choice.

***Students living outside of a gateway city area may need to arrange for a connecting flight to a gateway city. These are additional variable costs, to be calculated individually by the student.

***Additionally, students may need to travel to a consulate to apply for and/or pick up a visa. These are additional variable costs to be calculated individually by the student.
