This cost estimate was prepared on April 5, 2017 for the Fall 2017 semester. These costs are approximations and are subject to change. The fees are based on those published by CIEE.

Students have the option of living in a homestay or in the student residence halls; students will be charged the same housing fee regardless of their housing selection.  The university dorms have limited availability; students are encouraged to live with host families for immersion purposes.  For students who reside in the dorms, meals are not included and are the responsibility of the student. Students who live in the homestay have all breakfasts and 7 meals per week covered in the lodging fee. Students should budget for all other meals.

Personal expenses include normal spending for cultural activities and essential daily needs.

The flight expense listed above is the estimated cost of a round trip ticket from the East Coast to Lisbon.  Students living outside of the East Coast or an international airport may need to arrange for a connecting flight.  Additionally, students may need to travel to a consulate to apply for and/or pick up a visa. These are additional variable costs, to be calculated individually by the student.

The visa fee listed above is the average cost that students incur from the Portguese visa process.

CIEE requires a non-refundable deposit of $300. Penn Abroad pays this amount on behalf of Penn students as a courtesy. If the student does not participate in the program, they will be billed by the University of Pennsylvania to cover the non-refundable deposit.  Additional withdrawal fees may apply depending on the date of withdrawal and CIEE's withdrawal policy.

Exchange rate = $1.00 USD = .94 EUR as of April 5, 2017
