Lodging and Meals: The cost for lodging reflected above refers to approximate lodging costs at the Townsville campus based on weekly prices for on-campus rooms w/ full board, ranging from $305-$324 AUD calculated for 18 weeks (based on the JCU academic calendar. Students should be prepared to pay a deposit (rental bond) to secure their housing.
  • On-campus accommodation is available at the Townsville campus for Australian and international students. Student colleges and halls provide a single furnished bedroom with a phone connection and internet access. Please keep in mind that there are several colleges/halls and the exact cost will vary. Students should check with the individual college/hall to find out what is/is not included in the fees.
  • Please note the Cairns campus does not offer on-campus accommodation. There are accommodation options located near the Cairns campus that are independently owned and operated: Cairns Student Lodge, The Beaches Apartments, and the Cairns Lodge are some of the possible options. It is not possible for students to live at Townsville and commute to Cairns.
Personal Expenses: includes normal spending for cultural activities and essential daily needs as recommended by JCU.

Local Transportation: Based on JCU website, $10-$50 AUD a week

Books and Supplies: JCU recommends students be prepared to spend $400-$500 AUD per semester on books and supplies

Mandatory Health Insurance: Estimate given by JCU's current preferred OSHC provider 

Visa Fee: Australia Student Visa fee is $550 AUD, with an additional surcharge applicable if paying by credit card.

Round Trip Flight from Gateway city to Program site: The flight expense listed above is the estimated cost of a round-trip ticket from the gateway city of Los Angeles to Townsville. However, you may depart from the city of your choice.

***Students living outside of the Los Angeles area may need to arrange for a connecting flight to a gateway city. These are additional variable costs, to be calculated individually by the student.

Exchange Rate: $1 USD = $1.3 Australian Dollars on March 16, 2017.
