This cost estimate was prepared April 3, 2017 for the Fall 2017 semester. These costs are approximations and are subject to change. Most of these expenses are based on calculations found on the University of Sydney website.
Lodging: Students can choose to live on campus or off campus. The cost listed above reflects cost of living on-campus at Urbanest, the preferred on-campus option guaranteed by the University of Sydney for Penn students. If students choose to live off campus, they will have to make additional payments for utilities. All students should note that there may be extra housing costs, such as a rental bond (security deposit), which is usually one month's rent. More information about accommodation options can be found on the University of Sydney accommodation website.
Personal Expenses, Local Transportation, Books and Supplies: based on the University of Sydney cost of living website
Mandatory Health Insurance: a requirement for all international students by the Australian Government. Further details about this insurance and what is covered will be provided by the University of Sydney. Penn students will pay this Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) fee directly to the University of Sydney as part of their acceptance.
Visa Fee: Australia Student Visa fee is set by the Australian Government on the visa fees website. Please note if paying by a credit card you will incur an additional surcharge as outlined on the website.
Round Trip Flight from Gateway city to Program site: The listed flight cost is the estimated cost of a round-trip ticket from the gateway city of Los Angeles to Sydney.
***Students living outside of the Los Angeles area will need to arrange for a connecting flight to the gateway city. These are additional variable costs, to be calculated individually by the student.
Exchange rate: US$1.00 = $1.31 Australian dollars (April 3, 2017)
