Penn Global Internship Program (GIP) in Sydney
The Internship: Students applying to Penn GIP in Sydney will have the opportunity to interview for internships in a variety of fields in Sydney, Australia.

Important Dates: Students must arrive in Sydney for orientation on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Internships will start the week of Monday, May 28, 2018. The last day of work will be Friday, July 20, 2018, and students must check out of their housing by Saturday, July 21, 2018.
The Location: Sydney ranks second on a list of the 50 best cities in the world in which to live, work and study, above New York and Paris. It is Australia's leading global city and the gateway to Asia, serving as the destination of choice for business, tourism, and education. Diverse communities of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds make themselves home in Sydney, with more than 1.2 million people living, working, studying, shopping, visiting, and sightseeing every day. Some of Sydney's most iconic attractions include Bondi Beach, the Taronga Zoo, the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Cockatoo Island, and the Blue Mountains.
Students who apply to Penn GIP in Sydney are applying for acceptance into the overall program. Our on-the-ground partners will facilitate interviews between accepted students and potential employers.
There are many fields and industries in which Penn GIP in Sydney students may find internships:
Placements are not available in hands-on clinical settings, such as medicine, psychology, exercise science, physiotherapy, etc. due to local restrictions.

Penn GIP in Sydney students will also be required to enroll in an internship class at the University of Sydney. As part of the class, students are required to attend five workshops that cover topics such as Australian business culture, conflict management, goal setting, and reflection. Students will also be asked to participate in four online discussions, four reflective journals, and one final report. While this is a requirement for participation in Penn GIP in Sydney, students should note that credit is not available for this course.
All GIP applicants must be current full-time, degree-seeking University of Pennsylvania students who are returning to their degree program full-time in the Fall semester. All GIP applicants must also be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
The internships with Penn GIP in Sydney also require applicants to meet the following eligibility criteria:

Please Note: Students who have participated in this program in the past OR who accepted a placement through this program in the past but then withdrew are not eligible to apply again.
Our partners in Sydney will pick you up from the airport and bring you to your housing.
Housing is included in the program fee and is arranged by the staff in Sydney. You will be living at the University of Sydney in an apartment with local students and fellow Penn interns.
Your housing will have staff on-site 24/7 that are qualified in first aid and are trained in emergency management and all aspects of property health and safety. Apartments will also have electronic swipe card access at all building entrances/exits, elevators, apartment doors, and bedroom doors.
Students can expect a commute of up to 60 minutes via public transportation from their housing to their internship site.
Each student accepted to Penn GIP in Sydney will receive a minimum Global Internship Award of AUD $3,880 (around $3,016 as of October 2017). This award is intended to cover the full program fee*, which includes the following:

Our partner staff at the University of Sydney will work to ensure that every accepted student has an internship that is in their area of interest. These staff members will speak with you one-on-one to review your goals, skills, and internship ideas. They can review your CV/resume and cover letter, and they will provide helpful strategies for interviewing. Interviews with employers will be set up by the staff member, and they will ensure that you receive an offer from an internship site. Accepted students will start interviewing with employers after confirming their acceptance by March 15th.

**Please Note:** Due to the high interest in the "Penn GIP in..." programs, students may only apply to one "Penn GIP in..." program. Students are also encouraged to apply for a second internship with a company in order to have the best chances of being accepted to the GIP.
