Program Snapshot

Global Internship Program (GIP): Center for the Advanced Study of India (CASI)
The Internship: These internships are available through the University of Pennsylvania's Center for the Advanced Study of India (CASI).  CASI placements are in both urban and rural locations in India.

Number of Spots Available: 15

Duration: 10 weeks

Start Date: Mid-Late May 2018

The Organization: The Center for the Advanced Study of India (CASI) partners with grassroots organizations deeply committed to their communities and guided by visionary leaders.  These organizations include both Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and for-profit companies that are working on a range of development issues, including health, rural development, environmental sustainability, education, gender, financial access, and social enterprise.  Since 2008, CASI has partnered with 16 organizations across India.

The Location: Students will be placed in select cities and towns in India based on CASI partner organizations and project needs.  India is the seventh-largest country in the world (by area), but the second-largest by population, with roughly 1/6th of the world's people living there.  It is also the most populous out of all the democracies in the world.  Four major religions of the world had their origins in India, which helped shape the culture of the country.  Today, India is one of the most diverse countries in the world, home to both rural and metropolitan areas, scientific and engineering innovations, and cultural exports such as music, movies, and literature.
