Please note: this budget sheet does not account for the gap between semesters including winter recess and spring vacation.  Students should calculate expenses based on their individual circumstance.

The housing fee is based on the yearly rate of DK House Warabi.  The cost of housing ranges depending on the type of housing. Students should budget for the housing option they select and also be sure to budget in any additional fees such a dorm admission fee, deposit, etc.  All information regarding housing and additional fees can be found on the Sophia website.

Additional rates are calculated as follows:

• Meals: 60,000 yen/month for 10 months
• Books and supplies: 50,000 yen/semester
• Local transportation: 10,000 yen/month for 10 months
• Personal expenses:  20,000 yen/month for 10 months
• Health Insurance: Japanese National Health Insurance at 1,500 yen/month for 10 months + 800 yen Personal Accident Insurance (mandatory)

The flight expense is the estimated cost of a round trip ticket from the East Coast to Tokyo (Narita Airport). Students living outside of the East Coast may need to arrange for a connecting flight to a gateway city at an additional variable cost, to be calculated individually by the student. Additionally, students may need to travel to a consulate to apply for and/or pick up a visa, again to be calculated individually by the student.
