Cost Estimate Preparation: This cost estimate was prepared on November 15, 2017 for the Spring 2018 semester. These costs are approximations and are subject to change.

Exchange Rate: USD $1 = 112.97 Japanese Yen (November 15, 2017)

Lodging: The housing fee is based on the semester rate of the Sophia Soshigaya International House.  Other housing options range from approximately $1,460- $3,650 USD for the semester depending on the type of housing. Students should budget for the housing option they select and also be sure to budget in any additional fees such as utility fees.

Meals: No meal service is provided for Sophia Soshigaya International House. The estimate for meals is based on local food options.

Personal Expenses: This estimate is meant to cover general expenses of college life, including additional course supplies, photocopying, toiletries, snacks, cell phone, etc. Personal expenses do not include any entertainment or vacation travel costs.

Local Transportation: All dormitories are off-campus. Students must commute to Sophia from their housing. Since the Sophia campus is located in the heart of Tokyo, the cost of living near campus is very high. As reasonable housing is located in the suburbs, exchange students should expect a 45-90 min. commuting time to campus. The train and subway systems in Tokyo are well-developed, but during the morning rush hours, the trains are very crowded.

Books and Supplies: N/A
