This cost estimate was created on May 25, 2016 for the fall 2016 semester. These costs are approximations and are subject to change. The fees are based on those published by the American Councils for International Education for the Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP).
The lodging and meals fee is for placement with host family or in a university dormitory. Home stay students eat breakfast and dinner in the home and students living in a dorm get a meal plan for two meals a day; the meals fee is the estimate for meals not covered by RLASP.
Personal expenses includes spending for cultural entertainment and essential daily needs, calculated at $500 per month for four months in Moscow. It is recommended that students in Vladimir budget $150 per month and students in St. Petersburg budget $400 per month.
The round trip flight expense is the estimated cost of a round trip ticket from Washington, D.C. to Russia. Participants have the option of purchasing directly from American Councils a round-trip ticket on the flight with resident directors from Washington, DC to Russia or purchasing their own airline ticket. The pre-departure orientation held in Washington, DC immediately before the program is mandatory; this is an additional variable costs to be calculated individually by the student.
