Students have the option of living in a homestay or in the student residence halls; students will be charged the same housing fee regardless of their housing selection. Meals are not included and are the responsibility of the student. Students who live in the homestay are invited to join the family for meals twice a week but must budget for all other meals.
Personal expenses include normal spending for cultural activities and essential daily needs.
The flight expense listed above is the estimated cost of a round trip ticket from the East Coast to Beijing. Students living outside of the East Coast or an international airport may need to arrange for a connecting flight. These are additional variable costs, to be calculated individually by the student.
CIEE requires a non-refundable deposit of $300. Penn Abroad pays this amount on behalf of Penn students as a courtesy. If the student does not participate in the program, they will be billed by the University of Pennsylvania to cover the non-refundable deposit. Additional withdrawal fees may apply depending on the date of withdrawal and CIEE's withdrawal policy.
