Notes:

This cost estimate was created on May 11, 2016 for the Fall 2016 semester. These costs are approximations and are subject to change. With the exception of Penn tuition and the study abroad fee, the fees are based on those published by the College Year in Athens.

One midday meal at the CYA Center is provided Monday- Friday and is covered by the Lodging & Meals fee on your Penn bill.  Students should budget $1900 for meals not provided by CYA. Local transportation costs include bus, rail, or ferry transportation around Greece, and for occasional taxi fare in Athens. The visa fee includes the costs of the FBI background check, fingerprinting, visa processing, mailing and shipping charges for the passport. Personal expenses include cultural entertainment, essential daily needs, laundry, incidentals, etc. This can vary widely from student to student but is calculated here at $50 USD/week for 15 weeks. The CYA handbook includes a list of items provided to assist in budget planning and to serve as a comparison with the prices paid at home for the same or similar items.

The round trip flight expense is the estimated cost of a round trip ticket to Athens from NYC.  Students may need to travel to a consulate to apply for and/or pick up a visa. Additionally, students may need to arrange for a connecting flight to a gateway city. These are additional variable costs to be calculated individually by the student.

Exchange rate based on  $1.00 USD = 0.88 Euros (EUR).
